Kitagawa Utamaro (1754-1806), illustrator and Jippensha Ikku (1765-1831), author Seiro ehon nenchu gyoji (Yoshiwara picture book, Annual events) Illustrated books, colophon signed Kitagawa sha Murasakiya Utamaro hitsu and dated Kyowa 4 (1804), published by Kazusaya Chusuke, fukurotoji-bon , 2 vols. complete, block printed in color, blue wrappers embossed with lanterns with crests of the brothels and affixed with buff-paper title slip printed as above in black and marked kan and kon respectively, sewn--very good impressions and color though some pigment partially and slightly faded, slightly soiled and rubbed toward lower edges, some minor worm holes, wrappers slightly worn along edges and vol. 1 with a minor stain on the front cover, title slip worn and the volume marks worn Contents: Vol. 1 ( kan ): 27 leaves, numbered 1-23 (first 4 leaves unnumbered), inside front cover, titled as above, signed Jippensha Ikku cho and Kitagawa Utamaro ga on a battle fan, 2-leaf introduction signed Senshuro and dated Kyowa 4 (1804), 2-leaf explanatory notes, signed Jippensha Ikku sai hen , 1 p. illustration of a poem card with plum and camellia branches, 1 double-page index, 10 double-page illustrations, 25 pp. text; Vol. 2 ( kon ): 22 leaves, numbered 1-20 (last two leaves unnumbered), 1 p. illustration of a poem card with maple and chrysanthemum spray, 9 double-page illustrations, 22 pp. text, double-page advertisement of the second series of the book, 1 p. colophon signed and dated as above 22.8 x 16cm. each (2)
