EXTREMELY STRONG IN RED BORDEAUX, IT FEATURES ALL THE FIRST GROWTHS AND NO LESS THAN SEVEN VINTAGES OF PETRUS, MANY IN CASE QUANTITY. ALSO INCLUDED IS ONE OF THE MOST EXTENSIVE OFFERINGS OF BOTH D'YQUEM AND DOM PERIGNON WE HAVE SEEN Property of a Gentleman NYWinesChristie's is honored to be able offer this outstanding private cellar in this our final spring fine wine auction. Now spending the majority of his time overseas, our client has decided to have a long overdue spring clean. Cellars such as this, are, without question few and far between. Here is entertaining on a grand scale. Put together over the last two decades, it belongs to a gentleman who quite obviously loves wine and loves sharing its wonders, be it an intimate dinner with friends or fine dining for two hundred. Purchased from the finest and most reliable of sources with an eye for provenance, the overall condition of the wines is truly superb. The cellar itself is a no expense spared tour de force in modern cellar design and technology. In order to assess the cellaring quality I tasted Palmer 1980 (level top shoulder), Mouton 1991 and Opus One 1989. All were in very fine condition for their age; please see my tasting notes below the lot descriptions. PRE-SALE TASTING: The owner has generously made available twelve bottles for potential buyers to assess at the pre-sale tasting, please see the pre-sale tasting page at the back of the catalogue for the full list of samples and details. This is a great opportunity for collectors, wine merchants and restaurateurs alike to aquire many of the world's greatest wines in quantity. It comes with our highest reccomendations and assurances of provenance and should definitely not be missed. Lots 1-350 David Wainwright Christie's Wine Department CHAMPAGNE KRUG, GRAND CUVEE AND ROSE There is no disputing the greatness of the wines produced by Krug in Reims. No producer has a higher average quality of vineyards, currently around 98 and no one is more selective when it comes to the grapes as Krug. With total average production at approximately 40,000 cases, Krug is comparatively a drop in the Champagne ocean. There are two key factors in Krug's outstanding quality and which separate them from almost all other producers. The first is the Non-Vintage Grande Cuvée is given priority for blending over the vintage releases, ie; the finest wines from each vintage are set aside for the Grande Cuvée blend before the vintage selection is made, not the other way around. The second factor is the fermentation of all wines in 205 litre Argonne oak barriques. Krug, Grande Cuvée--Non Vintage Reims Parcel: lots 1 - 4 1 dozen bottles per lot
