Lot of 2 including: Composite silver gelatin photograph, approx. 20 x 16 in., featuring portraits of several hundred members of the Salvation Army ca 1913. Portraits are arranged (from smallest to largest) in rows to appear as though subjects are seated in a classical structure complete with large pillars on each side. The largest portrait, featured in the center of the front row, depicts William Booth the organization's founder who actually died in 1912. Important subjects featured include Catherine Booth, "Joe The Turk," and Major Musa Bhai. Other subjects in the front row hold instruments and wear sashes with phrases such as "America / for Jesus," "The World / for God," "Sinner / Come to Jesus" and several others. Photograph features ink inscription "'1913'" above subjects; mount verso features illegible penciled signature and date "1913." Mounted silver gelatin photograph, approx. 7 x 4.5 in., featuring possible members of clergy seated on a bench, two holding instruments including an accordion and a violin, with a large brick building and three male subjects in the background. Penciled inscription on verso reads "Father James Allen - with accordion / Mama brother picture taken while he was in L. [cut off] / Los Angeles / circa 1890."
