Title: Large photograph of the dismasting of the Star of Iceland Author: Place: No place Publisher: Date: c.1930 Description: Large format gelatin silver print photograph. Image size 41.5x54 cm (16¼x21"), matted, period wood frame. Metal plate at bottom. Image of the dismasting of the Alaska Packers steel bark, Star of Iceland (ex. Willscott) off the coast of Japan. Built as the Willscott in 1896 by William Hamilton Glasgow, later sailed for the Alaska Packers Association as the Star of Iceland. The ship suffered severe storm damage near Oshima on the 18th November 1929 and was later broken up at Yokohama. This appears to be a photograph of the dismasting, with sails rigged to very short masts, the broken taller masts visible hanging over the side. The photograph has some white hand-painted highlights to the caps of the waves and a few of the ships lines. The plaque below incorrectly gives the date of dismasting as 1888. Lot Amendments Condition: Not examined out of frame; very good. Item number: 288067
