Lavinia Wilcox Mahogany Lap Desk, an Albumen Photograph of Lavinia, a Ship's Log from the Bark United States, and a Scrimshaw Whale's Tooth, mid-19th century, the lap desk with slanted foldout writing surface, the box opening to a compartmented interior with three drawers with turned whalebone pulls and whale's tooth inlay including a plaque inscribed "L. Wilcox," and two drawers with baleen fronts; the photograph of Lavinia in a reeded Victorian frame; the log kept by Captain Thomas Wilcox spanning 1851 to 1854, including entries up to the day before he died while whaling in the Pacific Ocean; and a small scrimshaw whale's tooth decorated with basket of flowers and vines, the back with double heart and arrows, desk ht. 9 3/4, wd. 19 7/8, dp. 12 1/2 in.
