LAWRANCE, Mary. A Collection of Roses from Nature . London: published by Miss Lawrance, 1799 (plates dated 1796-99). 2° (380 x 310mm.). Engraved title and dedication, 2pp. text, hand-coloured etched frontispiece and 89 plates (lacking plate 14). (Some light offsetting, occasional spotting, outer margin of dedication shaved with slight loss.) Early 19th-century crimson morocco gilt, covers with wide ruled borders in gilt and blind, floral cornerpieces, spine in five sections, lettered in gilt, raised bands with roll tool, g.e. (corners slightly rubbed). A handsome copy of the first work to be entirely devoted to roses. It was originally published in 30 parts and was in great demand as roses rapidly grew in popularity.
