Gyselynck Date: 1851-1854 Description: 4 volumes. 128; 159; 162; 90 pp. 402 color lithographs, 26 of them folding, most have tissue guards. (4to) 9½x6, period purple morocco-backed marbled boards with leather gilt-lettered spine labels This beautifully illustrated and rare volume on the history, description and culture of the rarest plants, was written by the 19th Century French botanist Lemaire, who was editor in chief for a few botanical publications including l'Horticulteur Universel, contributing his own writings to this publication and others. He is especially known for his writings on cactaceae. Lot Amendments Condition: Front cover detached and most of spine missing from Volume 1; front cover detached from Volume 2; spine detaching from Volume 3; hinges cracked; few plates are detached or detaching, internally very good.
