LE ROUGE, Georges-Louis (c.1712-1790). Recueil des fortifications, forts et ports de mer de France . Paris: Le Rouge, [1760?]. Rare first edition of an atlas containing hand-coloured plans of French fortifications in France and America , including 3 plates showing forts at ‘Québec’, ‘Louisbourg’, ‘Nouvelle Orléans’, ‘Port Dauphin’, ‘Cayenne’ and ‘Ville Marie’. We are able to trace no other copy with the title and plans printed in red. Phillips 2975. Octavo (179 x 110mm). Engraved title printed in red, 2 engraved leaves of table in black, 89 engraved plates printed in red and coloured by a contemporary hand. Contemporary mottled calf with gilt borders to sides, red morocco spine label gilt-lettered, spine gilt (skilfully restored at spine and corners). Provenance : ‘de Maubuisson’ (early inscription on title) – later German notes on endleaves.
