Lettres-Patentes du Roi. Official order on behalf of Louis XVI, King of France and on behalf of the Archbishop of Bordeaux. Printed in Grenoble, France, 1790. French. "According to the ordinance of the National Assembly…all of the Jews known in France as 'Portuguese Jews', 'Spanish' and 'Jews of Avignon" will continue and enjoy all the rights they were granted so far and which were granted according to permits…they will get rights of active citizens…and all their rights will be valid as long as they fulfill all the conditions required of them". This order was published less than one year after the French revolution, during a period when France went through extreme social and administrative changes. King Louis XVI had to accept all of the new National Assembly's demands, the rule of rights granted according to social class was substituted by elected bodies and the declarations of human and civil rights were composed. Approx. 48.5X37 cm. Fair-good condition. Professionally restored tears (some damages to text). Torn margins. Mounted on acid-free paper.
