Leipzig, bey Siegfried Lebrecht Crusius, 1769-[ca. 1772]. 2 (of 3) Parts in 1 vol.: [16],154; 88 pp. With engraved title-vignette, 40 (of 54) Roman numb. engraved plates (all in a CONTEMPORARY HAND-COLOURING) by i.a. C.L. Crusius & 2 half-p. engraved vignettes by i.a. C.L. Crusius. Folio (ca. 38 x 23,5 cm.), late 18th-cent. gilt tree-calf, both covers with gilt ornamental border (dep. a meander pattern) around sides, richly gilt spine with red mor. letterpiece, gilt inside dentelles, yellow edges. ¶ Nissen (BBI) 1807. Pritzel 8395. Jackson p. 132. First edition (printed on LARGE PAPER) of an extensive 18th-cent. German work on grasses by the German physician & naturalist Johann Christian Daniel von Schreber (1739-1810) illustrated with engravings (dep. various grasses) for the greater part by the German print-maker Carl Leberecht Crusius (1740-1779). A complementary third part was published in 1810 (together with 14 engr. plates). Owner’s entry of “Davies” in black ink on first free end-paper. ¶ The second part lacks probably a title-leaf (sometimes present in other copies we could trace). A few small defects (top of spine sl. dam./ chipped, binding partly rubbed/ worn along extremities, both covers sl. scratched, occ. sl. foxed/ browned (partly due to off-setting of the plates), a few leaves sl. (water-)stained in outer blank margin), but nevertheless in good condition.
