LEVANTO, Francesco Maria (fl.1664-1675). Guida fedele de piloti per il mare Mediterraneo . [N.p.]: 1676. Exceedingly rare second edition of a maritime atlas based on Pieter Goos's pilot guide of the Mediterranean, Nieuwe Groote Zee-Spiegel (1662). The first edition, with the title Prima parte dello specchio del mare, was published in 1664 with the same 25 plates as the present lot, and was later re-issued with 28 plates by Coronelli in Venice in 1698. The present edition is unrecorded by the major bibliographies and has not appeared at auction according to RBH/ABPC. We can trace just one institutional copy , at the Achille Bertarelli library in Milan. Folio (410 x 277mm). Engraved title, 25 engraved charts, all but one double-page (small wormholes, most charts shaved just into plate). Contemporary gilt vellum , silk ties (probable remboitage, rebacked with new endpapers).
