LEWIS, Percy Wyndham (1884-1957, editor). Blast . London: Leveridge and Co. for John Lane, 1914-1915. Nos 1-2, 2 volumes, 4° (305 x 241mm and 300 x 244mm). Plates and illustrations after Lewis, Henri Gaudier-Brzeska and others. (Some spotting, light marginal dampstaining in no. 1.) Original printed wrappers (some fading and marking, extremities rubbed and chipped, upper wrapper of no.1 detached). NOS. 1-2 [ALL PUBLISHED] OF BLAST , FOUNDED AND EDITED BY LEWIS, with Ezra Pound's 'Frates Minores' uncensored--the first, last and second last lines of the poem (no. 1, p.48) were usually inked out by the censor. Ford Madox Ford's contribution to no. 1, 'The Saddest Story' (which was to be completed in issue 2) was, instead, revised and completed by Ford and published as The Good Soldier (London: 1915). Of Lewis's articles in both issues, several were reprinted, and The Enemy of the Stars was rewritten for its later book edition (London: 1932). No. 2 includes poems by Pound, T.S. Eliot and Ford and designs after Gaudier-Brzeska and Lewis. Though another two further issues of Blast were planned, they never materialised. Morrow and Lafourcade C1 and 2; Pound and Grover C1a and C2a. LEWIS, W. (editor). The Enemy . London: The Blackfriars Press/Hazell, Watson and Viney for The Arthur Press, 1927-1929. Nos 1-3, 3 volumes, 2°. (281 x 180mm). Colour-printed and monochrome plates after Lewis. (Variable light spotting.) Original printed wrappers (no. 3 slightly spotted and chipped at spine ends, nos 1-2 worn, wrappers detached, lacking no.2 lower wrapper). NOS 1-3 OF THE ENEMY (ALL PUBLISHED). Lewis founded The Arthur Press in order to publish this periodical, the first issue of which actually appeared in February (and not January, as stated on the title). This journal represented Lewis himself, not a movement, and consists almost entirely of his own articles. No. 1 includes a self-portrait by Lewis and his attack on Joyce and Stein 'The Revolutionary Simpleton' (pp. 27-174); no. 2 includes 'Paleface', in which Lewis criticises D.H. Lawrence (pp. 3-112), and a portrait of Joyce after Lewis; no. 3 features The Diabolical Principle (pp. 11-84). The publisher's address is rubber-stamped in violet ink on the title of no. 1. Morrow and Lafourcade C5-7; Pound and Grover C5a, C6a and C7a. LEWIS, W. Thirty Personalities and a Self-Portrait . London: The Chiswick Press for Desmond Harmsworth, 1932. Broadsheets (378 x 274mm). 31 plates, retaining original tissue guards. (Very light occasional spotting on text and tissue guards.) Loose as issued in later portfolio. FIRST EDITION, NO. 23 OF 200 COPIES SIGNED BY LEWIS. Morrow and Lafourcade A19; Pound and Grover B3. (6)
