Laid in: An autograph humorous note signed by Lewis entitled "An Original MS," 1 page, 4to : "In the pure old English tongue, before it was corrupted by Chaucer, Sinclair Lewis, Anatole France & like contributors to the Hearst Syndicate, an 'original' was a man slightly dotty...Should I say then, that this is authentically an original MS? To Efrem Zimbalist, New York, May 5, 1931. Sinclair Lewis." -- Dodsworth. [1929]. Dust jacket; blue cloth folding case . INSCRIBED: "It is probable that some time Sam & Fran [the main characters in the novel] heard Efrem Zimbalist. It is improbable that they ever met him. I have! Sinclair Lewis."
