[With:] Carbon typescript, a descriptive list for nos. 1-124, 19pp., inscribed on title -- MESERVE. Photographs...Supplement 3, New York, 1950, 7pp., plus sheet with 8 mounted images -- MESERVE. Photographs...Supplement 4, New York, 1955, 7pp., plus sheet with 8 mounted images, Meserve ALS laid in. Together in a custom-fitted clamshell case of blue buckram, upper cover gilt-lettered "Special copy prepared by the Author. " Meserve, the first great collector of historical photographs, began his collection before 1900, and even acquired Matthew B. Brady's negatives in 1902. Hr corresponded with Robert Todd Lincoln and many Lincoln collectos, and initially published 100 prints from original negatives. This series he continued to augment with later supplements. The present is evidently a special compilation of the 1911 original series (100 images) with supplements and a typescript index.
