Dalton Smith, William Herbert, and others, by Weddell, Bailey, Barclay and others. Contemporary light brown calf, tooled in gilt and blind, spines with red and green morocco lettering-pieces, marbled endpapers, g.e. Condition : lacks one half-title, folding plate 153 in vol.III split at fold and hinged with cloth; spines chipped at head and foot with small chips to three of the lettering pieces. Provenance : Lynn Abbott Trust. a fine set including a selection of plates featuring the work of some of the greatest british botanical artists of the period , re-packaged from earlier works by Lindley, Sweet and Don. Of the three, only Lindley was alive at the time of this re-issue, which was updated with text by an unidentified “practical floriculturalist”. Nissen BBI 1927 (lists the work under Sweet).
