LOGAU, Friedrich, Freiherr von (1604-1655). Autograph inscription signed ('Friderichus à Logaw. Nob[ilis] Sil[esius]') from an album amicorum, Altdorf bei Nürnberg, 19 October 1627, in Latin, decorated with his coat of arms in red, green, black and liquid gold, one page, 8vo , further inscription and coat of arms on verso of Hans von Reideburg, mounted on guards on card (light soiling). Provenance : Stargardt sale, 4 April 1991, lot 275; the Albin Schram Collection.

Nob[ilis] Sil[esius]') from an album amicorum, Altdorf bei Nürnberg, 19 October 1627, in Latin, decorated with his coat of arms in red, green, black and liquid gold, one page, 8vo , further inscription and coat of arms on verso of Hans von Reideburg, mounted on guards on card (light soiling). Provenance : Stargardt sale, 4 April 1991, lot 275; the Albin Schram Collection. Logau's entry is headed with the motto 'Amare volo, petiri nolo' (I want to love, not to be pursued), and ends with another, 'Non est mortale quod opto' (What I seek is not mortal); the inscription to the unidentified possessor of the book praises his moral excellence and mastery of 'the more elegant literature': 'Laudatâ Virtute & politiori literatura Fulgentissimo Domino Possessori, sic adfectum benivolum innuere & honorificum sui recordationem procurare voluit'. The great epigrammist of the period of the Thirty Years' War, Logau had matriculated at the university of Altdorf on 6 July 1625, for the study of the liberal arts.
