Joseph Flynn was born on 2 July 1867, near Maryborough, Queen’s County, Ireland. He joined the 2nd Battalion, York and Lancaster Regiment in July 1881, and served in the Egyptian campaign of 1882, including the battle of Tel-el-Kebir (Medal with Clasp and Bronze Star). By the time of his discharge at Gosport on 1 July 1902, Flynn had transferred to the West India Regiment as Regimental Sergeant-Major. He died in London on 21 March 1946, aged 82. Sold with copy discharge papers.
