Born in 1943 in Beaulieu-sur-Mer, Cane studied interior design and both fine and decorative arts before embarking on a career in painting and sculpture. He was a memeber of the French group Supports/Surfaces, established in the revolutionary atmoshephere of the late 60’s (1969-1972), opposed to the the second School of Paris, proclaiming that practice should be connected with theory. After the group fell apart in the early 1980s, Cane came back to figuration. His works have been exhibited internationally, includint at the Georges Pompidou Centre in Paris, Château de Chambord, the Sao Paulo Museum of Modern Art, the Maeght Foundation in St Paul de Vence, and the Museum of Modern Art in Nice, in the “The Spirit Supports/Surfaces” exhibition at the Shaanxi History Museum in Xi’an, China and in the Leo Castelli Gallery in New York. “Je passe de l’abstrait au figuratif environ tous les dix ans.
