Montcalm is best known for his spirited defense of Canada against the British during the French and Indian War. He was defeated and mortally wounded in the Battle of Quebec in 1759. The high point of his career, although full of errors in its strategy, was the victory in July 1758 at the Battle of Carillon (later Ticonderoga). Almost in spite of himself, and primarily because the errors of James Abercrombie were greater, Montcalm was able to defeat a force of about 16,000 British troops with a force about a quarter that size. Condition: Light water damage along right edge has caused some bleeding of ink, but note readable.
