LOWRY, L.S. ALS A single page ALS from L.S. Lowry, written on both sides, on "The Elms" headed notepaper, addressed to Mr [Mervyn] Levy, author of 'The Paintings of L.S Lowry' and 'The Drawings of L.S.Lowry', dated 18 December 1965. Approx. size 9 x 7", with single central horizontal and vertical folds, and one vertical crease adjacent to left hand edge. An important letter displaying among other things Lowry's aversion to a written biography, reading in part: "The Life Story you refer to is not a life story, but an article on my painting for publication in a newspaper ... As I told you I do not want a Life Story. I have had someone offer to write one, but I have always refused. I hope you all are keeping as well as can be and are as busy you wish to be. I get to London hardly at all. It must be months since I was last there ... I am not as active as I used to be". Signed at end "Yours, L.S. Lowry".
