Magician’s Trunk Filled With Stage and Parlor Props and Apparatus. Circa 1930s—40s. Owned by the magician Arthur J. Leonhardt (“Fooldini”), of Chicago, and accompanied by his personal notebook with typed and handwritten directions to various effects, and two signed 1947 letters from the editor and publisher of Conjurors’ Magazine (Julien Proskauer and Edward Dart) where Leonhardt’s drawing and idea for the Hat and Cane to Table was published. Filled with a miscellany of vintage props, some apparently fashioned by Leonhardt himself, and including: Handkerchief Pedestal, Wine of Karnak (Berland), stage money (various), Stop-Go (Snyder), Shell Game (Sherms), Multiplying Billiard Balls, Yogi Blocks, Finger Chopper, Steel Ball Through Brass Bolt, Cups and Balls (Adams), Chinese Sticks, Wonder Box, and assorted playing cards, silks, wands, handkerchiefs, spring flowers, wooden blocks and rings, tubes, table covering, and a stack of vintage supply house catalogs (Ireland, Abbott’s, Berland). 26 x 14 x 12” overall.
