A Map of the United States: compiled chiefly from the State Maps, and other Authentic Information.
Philadelphia: Matthew Carey, 1795 [but 1796]. Engraved two-sheet map (630 x 900 mm). Inset of Florida. Condition : ample margins, minor separations at folds, early restoration along the central vertical fold. Scarce map of the US, sometimes found in copies of Carey's General Atlas of 1796 but more often wanting. This issue of the map, engraved by W. Harrison, includes Carey's imprint above the inset of Florida. Like the Rumsey copy, the plate for the right hand side of the map has been reworked with additional shading lines along the coast. Later issues, i.e. copies found in editions of the General Atlas published after 1796, include a plate number in the upper left corner (not found here). Wheat & Brun 133.
