Beschreibung:

Wohl Franken um 1450. Holz, vollrund geschnitzt, farbig gefasst. Die Heilige mit offenem Haar und faltenreichem Gewand. Starke Altersspuren, Fassungsverluste, Fassung teils in einem späteren Jahrhundert überarbeitet, Wurmfraß, Fehlstellen und Ergänzungen an Kopf und Gewand, beide Unterarme fehlen.

Zwar kann eine zweifelsfreie Identifizierung der Heiligen durch das Fehlen jeglicher Attribute nicht vorgenommen werden, die offene, wallende Haarpracht deutet jedoch darauf hin, dass das vorliegende Skulpturfragment vermutlich die Gefährtin Jesu Christi, Maria Magdalena, darstellt.
Provenienz: laut Angabe des Einlieferers erworben 1968 bei Antiquitäten Gertrud Nissen, Freiburg i.Br.; seitdem Privatsammlung Dreisamtal.

Mary Magdalene with flowing hair
Probably Franconia circa 1450. Carved wood, painted in polychrome colours. The saint with loose hair and pleated garment. Considerable signs of age, paint loss, paint partly refreshed in a later century, worm damage, missing parts and supplements on the head and the robe, both lower arms missing.

Although the absence of any attributes makes it impossible to identify the saint beyond any doubt, the open, flowing hair suggests that the present sculpture fragment probably represents the companion of Jesus Christ, Mary Magdalene.
Provenance: according to the consignor purchased at Antiquitäten Gertrud Nissen, Freiburg i.Br., in 1968; since then private collection Dreisamtal.
