In 1936, he brought the Arielle, a wooden power cruiser 42’7” LOA with a 75-horsepower diesel engine from New York to Le Havre under power. He therefore has the unique record of two single–handed Atlantic crossings, westward under sail and Eastward under power, bringing his yacht into port without a mishap in each instance.
