Markham, Clements R. STORY OF THE COMMISSION OF HMS COLLINGWOOD FROM THE POINT OF VIEW OF A NAVAL CADET [FROM A MIDSHIPMAN'S POINT OF VIEW], 1844 TO 1848 autograph manuscript narrative memoir in 27 chapters of Markham's first naval expedition as a teenage cadet on a voyage around the Pacific including visits to Tahiti, Valparaiso, Callao, Hawaii, Mazatlan, and California, providing much vivid detail about life on board ship in the mid-nineteenth century, extensively illustrated with pen and ink sketches (mostly depicting aspects of life on ship), ink and wash route-maps and plans of harbours, and hand-coloured flags and coats of arms, with about another 40 illustrations tipped in including photographs and pencil, wash, and watercolour sketches, mostly by John Speer the ship's assistant surgeon, of Pacific scenes and ships' views, also with 6 letters tipped in, 2 volumes, 550 pages, 4to, c.1910, blue morocco backed boards
