Engraved title, portrait of the author and 58 emblematic engravings by Matham, Bloemart and others after designs by Abraham Diepenbeek. (Leaf b2 bound out of order, P3 with lower corner renewed.) 18th-century polished marbled calf gilt, covers with wide outer gilt-floral border, spine in seven compartments with six raised bands, morocco lettering-piece in one, gilt-paneled in the remaining, edges gilt (some minor rubbing to joints and edges). Provenance : Capt. Michiels (inkstamp on title margin); Dr. Robert Thibaut (bookplate); Leonard B. Schlosser (bookplate); acquired from him, 1986. FIRST EDITION, LARGE-PAPER COPY of this very fine series of plates after Diepenbeek's designs, illustrating Michel de Marolles' fifty-eight adaptations of classical fables.
