MARYLAND] BACON, THOMAS-compiler. Laws of Maryland at large, with proper indexes. Now first collected into one compleat body,... ... Annapolis: Printed by Jonas Green, printer to the Province, 1765 [but 1766]. Cloth with red and black lettering labels. 15 1/2 x 10 inches (40 x 25 cm); [736] pp., collating as ESTC [a]^(2) b-f^(2) g1 A-4H^(4) 4I^(2) A-Y^(2) [Z]1. Bar Association stamp on title, title page with some soiling and a small tear without loss, but overall a clean copy, minor defects (a repaired tear on R1), with the early name of John Purviance at the head of the title, with occasional ink annotations (in the same hand?). This was a major typographic production from an important colonial press. Publication took four years. This is the single most important legal work published in the Colony by most accounts, and is of note for the quality of its typography and the first appearance of the seal of Maryland on the title. See Lawrence Wroth History of Printing in Colonial Maryland 254; Evans 10049; Sabin 2684. C The New York City Bar Association
