Meisterstück No. 139L "Short Window" Fountain Pen * Damaged Author: Montblanc Date Published: 1948-1952 Description: The design which inspired Montblanc's Ernest Hemingway Writers Series pen. This iconic pen was Montblanc's top model when it was introduced in 1938, and originally retailed for the then-large sum of 45 Reichsmarks (approx. $20 US). Black celluloid cap and barrel, short ink window, gold-plated clip and cap ring flanked by two thin white-metal cap bands, turning-knob filler. Large 14K two-tone gold nib, appears to be a stub, engraved "4810 / [Montblanc emblem]", light to medium flex. 131mm. Rare in this size. Endpiece imprinted "L 139/G." Poor condition, nib section detached with threaded part of section disintegrating into pieces, cap cannot be screwed on, white metal cap rings loose and discolored, clip ring corroded, captop degrading and possibly repaired, barrel engraved "Fritz Matti," offered as-is, possibly useful for replacement parts. -Wallrafen, Stefan & Jens Rösler. Collectible Stars I: Montblanc 1908-1947. [Cologne: 2014], pp. 104-105. The book records three variations: "Long Window," "Shorter Window" and "Short Window," of which this is the 3rd variant. No priority is given for any of the three variants, each of which has a scarcity rating of 8 ("Ultra Rare, Up to 75 Exist") on a 12-point scale. Item#: 343423a Headline: Montblanc L139 "Short Window" fountain pen, c.1950, Damaged
