MELVILLE, Herman (1819-1891). Redburn: His First Voyage. Being the Sailor-boy Confessions and Reminiscences of the Son-of-a-Gentleman, in the Merchant Service . New York: Harper & Brothers, 1849. 8 o . (Some occasional spotting as usual.) ORIGINAL PRINTED WRAPPERS, UNCUT (a bit frayed, some losses along spine). FIRST AMERICAN EDITION, EXTREMELY SCARCE IN WRAPPERS. The present copy contains three leaves of advertisements, paged 9-11 and [1]-2; BAL describes in total 14 pages of ads for the first printing: [i-iv] and [1]-10. The leaf paged 9.10 is here conjugate with the final text leaf (R3). The second printing expanded the advertisements at the end. Copies in wrappers are very scarce, with none appearing in ABPC since at least 1975. BAL 13660.
