The composer, in his typically elegant cursive hand, graciously declines an "honoured" invitation to perform in London, as "my occupation will not allow me this year to be absent from here for more than a few days....I need not express to you how much I regret not to visit your country, for you know how great a pleasure it always gives to me...I must also lose the pleasure of assisting at a Concert which as it appears will be of so great an attraction, and wishing you every success to it."
