Lot Description: Metallic Thread Examples: Three 19th Century Miser's or Stocking Purses in different forms and colours, incorporating metal threads. The smallest is worked in an open fashion from quite weighty gold metal thread, since tarnished. It bears a rope effect tassel to one end and two dull gold metal sliders. The second purse, lightweight and finely worked, combines black and salmon threads to form a leaf design, highlighted in gold threads. The rounded end bears a three sectioned silk tassel in the main colours, supplemented by an embroidered bobble, now appearing silver, probably tarnished from gold. A single slider is similarly embroidered. Finally, a pale green purse with one bulbous end, the work very tight and worked with flowers, in silver, salmon and several green threads. Tiny tassel to the opposite end, two shaped metal sliders in gold and silver. Condition Report: . First purse probably lacking second tassel. ARR: Categories: Fans
