Woodcut headpieces and initials opening each book. Collation: [\KP\k1] A4 a4 A-Tt4 Vv2. (Without blank A1 after cancel title, title evenly browned, title and a few leaves with small repairs in the inside or bottom margin, occasional dampstains, some spotting.) Contemporary sheep, spine and sides ruled in gilt, red morocco spine label (rebacked preserving much of the original spine, sides scuffed, extremities rubbed); in a custom calf-backed clamshell case. Provenance : Leonora Lethieullier (?c1637-c.1715, signature on A1) -- Lane Cove Church Sunday School Library (inscription on front endpaper) -- Charles Sibbald Currie, Ettrick, Derrinallum (bookplate) -- Arthur Rogers, Bookseller (ALS laid-in) -- Dr John Charlesworth (lawyer, author). FIRST EDITION, IN A CONTEMPORARY BINDING, OF 'ONE OF THE GREATEST WORKS OF THE HUMAN IMAGINATION' (ODNB). 'In the United States, Benjamin Franklin Thomas Jefferson and John Adams drew on their wide reading in Milton's poetry and prose to articulate their republicanism...
