MINIATURE BOOK]. ELUARD, Paul (1895-1952). Musicien . [Alès]: P.A. Benoit, 1954. 38 x 38 mm. GREEN MOROCCO BY PIERRE-LUCIEN MARTIN, inlaid with five morocco triangles forming an offset star at center surrounded by intersecting black lines and inlaid black triangle and quadrangle shapes to an abstract design, smooth spine gilt lettered, green paper endleaves, plain wrappers and spine bound at end. edges gilt, stamp signed by the designer on verso of front free endpaper; quarter morocco chemise and slipcase. Provenance : purchased from Emil Offenbacher, 30 October 1956. LIMITED EDITION, number 17 of 29 copies signed in pencil by the publisher from an edition of 35. Pierre-Lucien Martin (1913-1985) was one of the foremost exponents of French bookbinding in the twentieth century. In contrast to artists such as Legrain and Bonet who were purely designers, Martin was a practising bookbinder for many years, until he himself had his bindings executed by such brilliant forwarders as Constant Dreneau (b. 1907), and finishers such as Guy Raphaël (b. 1915).
