Original half morocco, upper board titled in gilt (extremities scuffed, boards rubbed with stain marks). FIRST EDITION. This copy is particularly interesting for the inclusion of an extra plan of New Orleans (dated 1860), located between plates 28 (Louisiana, Mississippi and Arkansas) and 29 (Texas), which is not listed in the index. The plan is not normally found in the 1860 edition, and first appears in the 1862 edition ( cf . Phillips 3558), suggesting that the present copy of the atlas contains one of the earliest copies of the plan of New Orleans. Phillips 831; Sabin 49719.
