Lockplate marked with a eagle over "US" and "SPRING / FIELD / 1817", action functions properly. Three band walnut stock with iron furniture, marked "MS" on the flat opposite the lock. Has the special "Sea Fencibles" thick brass buttplate with rack number "25." Complete with iron ramrod. Condition: Good to very good. Bore dark, metal with gray peppering. Stock with normal age and service wear. A nice example of a scarce 1816 Type I alteration variant.
