MULSANT, Martial Etienne (1797-1880) and Jean Baptiste Edouard VERREAUX (1810-1868). Histoire naturelle des oiseaux-mouches ou colibris constituant la famille des trochilids . Lyons:: H. Georg, [1873]-1877-[1879]. 4 volumes and supplement bound in 2, 4 (314 x 237mm). 115 hand-coloured lithographic plates only after Antoine Germain Bvalet and E. Mesplis (of a possible 125), printed by Lemercier. Half titles and titles in red and black. (First plate soiled at margins, a few others with lighter marginal soiling, several plates with creasemarks, spotting to some plates, mainly those in volume I, plate 15 in vol. II with small segments of paper adhering to plate surface, lacking a leaf of letterpress to the supplement). Modern green half morocco by the Period Bindery, Bath, t.e.g., original printed wrappers bound in at the end of each volume, the front wrappers with a mounted hand-coloured vignette of a humming bird. A MOST ATTRACTIVE WORK, issued in 21 parts, including the supplement in 5 parts. The humming birds are figured with great delicacy and placed amidst flowers and foliage which are no less varied in detail.
