NASH, John (1752-1835). Illustrations of Her Majesty's palace at Brighton; formerly the Pavilion . London: J.B. Nichols and son, for Nichols, R. Loder and J. Taylor, 1838. Large 2 (538 x 375mm). Letterpress title, dedication, list of uncoloured plates, advertisement, 17-page 'History of the Palace' by E.W. Brayley, and list of coloured plates. Steel-engraved title vignette by Cleghorn, 31 coloured aquatints, 30 of which are mounted on 27 sheets of brown card, several with engraved captions on mount versos, 35 uncoloured aquatints and line etchings on 31 sheets, 8 of which are printed on india paper and mounted. (Spotting, heavy in a few plates, light vertical crease in title.) 19th-century green half morocco, spine gilt in compartments, red speckled edges (wear at spine and corners). Provenance : Sir David Lionel Goldsmid-Stern-Salomons (bookplate). Second edition, with Brayley's historical introduction. The illustrations are principally the work of Nash's proteg Augustus Pugin, with additional views by C. Moore, John Willis C. Fielding, and others. Abbey Scenery 62.
