Contemporary half calf (worn, crudley rebacked with adhesive tape). Provenance : MARY ASHLEY (signature on endpaper, numerous annotations and a few drawings. Mary Ashley (1843-1903), astronomer produced observing notebooks on the Moon and Jupiter, which with other items came to the library of BAA) -- Mary Adela Blagg (1858-1944, first female member of the RAS, inscription on endpaper: "M.A. Blagg. Formerly the property of Mr Hardcastle" -- Joseph Alfred Hardcastle (great grandson of Sir William Herschel (1738-1822), British astronomer who discovered Uranus in 1781) -- British Astronomical Association (stamps). With 7 other works in 11 volumes, including James Nasmyth and James Carpenter's The Moon (London, 1874, second edition), Peter Andreas Hansen's Tables de la Lunes (London, 1857, FIRST EDITION) and Mary Ashley's copy of the Selenographical Journal (April 1878-December 1882, vols.
