Title: New Guinea: What I Did and What I Saw Author: D'Albertis, L[uigi] M[aria] Place: Boston Publisher: Houghton, Mifflin, and Company Date: 1881 Description: 2 volumes. xii, 421, [3] pp. xii, 406, [1] pp. With 4 chromolithographed plates, all in Vol.I; numerous wood-engraved plates & illustrations; folding map.21.5x13 cm. (8½x5¼"), color pictorila cloth lettered in gilt. Second Edition (so stated). D'Albertis was a noted ornithologist who traveled to Borneo in 1872 in the company of the great botanical explorer and naturalist Odoardo Beccari. Though stated second edition, this is the first American edition evidently comprised of the English second edition sheets. Lot Amendments Condition: Soiling and some wear to covers, rubbed along front joint of Vol. II; neatly recased with new endpapers, stain along gutter of pp. x-xi in Vol. I; very good.
