Ω An ivory and agate inlaid casket, Augsburg, mid 17th century and later, the wood carcass veneered with ivory panels pierced with oval, circular and heart shapes backed with cornelians, stamped silver foil beading, the corners with tortoiseshell veneer lined niches, each side panel and the lid centred by later oval ivory and silver pique oval panels decorated with stylized landscapes, pierced brass key hole escutcheon plates and hinges engraved with stylized harpies, later paste mounts, 27cm high, 32cm wide Note: The pierced lozenges and cornelian backed mounts are also to be found on cabinets attributed to the Augsburg maker Melchior Baumgartner of the mid seventeenth century.
