Offered for sale is a 1.986L 1972 Volvo 1800 ES manual that has been with the current owner for the last 9 years. Coming with a partial history file, this lot's condition scores an impressive 97 / 135.
Classic Car Auctions says: Sparkling, low mileage Swedish Starlet! Cherished by its current owner for the last 9 years, this three-owner Volvo 1800 ES is being sold with the most appropriate number plate, 1800 ES. The white bodywork was given a respray during the cars tenure with Hylton Gott, dealer principal of Hylton Gott Volvo in Downham Market, Norfolk (apparently for no other reason than to keep his paint sprayer busy!) Taken in part exchange, the vehicle was occasionally MoT'd and rarely driven, and '1800 ES' was used for various showroom promotions until 2007, when it was acquired by its current custodian with an indicated mileage of 23,777, which we believe may well be correct but are unable to warrant. The car is described as very smart, both inside and out, with its original carpets, and seats which are unrestored with good patina and no rips or tears. The headlining is perfect and unmarked, as is the dash, which, unusually, is not cracked. The bodywork and underside appear in good order, with no obvious evidence of welding or filler. All the panel gaps are excellent and the doors shut beautifully. All the instruments appear to work correctly, even the clock, often faulty on these cars, and there are no concerning warning lights. The tyres were renewed when the car was recommissioned for the current owner at Hylton Gott and the battery was also replaced at that point. The car is fitted with period Minilite wheels, a Moto-Lita steering wheel, the Volvo 1800S radiator grille and Accuspark electronic ignition, however all the original parts are available and included in the sale. Recent work carried out on the car included the replacement of the rear springs, rear shock absorbers and rear suspension bushes with new items from Brookhouse Volvo of Woodbridge. The car is offered for sale with its owner's handbook and wallet, original jack, some original tools. When it was initially introduced, the P1800's looks were a touch divisive and its place in the motoring world a little unclear, however with the benefit of the passing years it's now seen as a good looking and stylish example of Swedish innovative design and has a 'fan club' that's growing daily.
