"The name Corniche has been chosen for the latest coachbuilt models because it symbolises their higher cruising speeds and their ability to cover greater distances with the minimum of fatigue for driver and passengers," announced Rolls-Royce in 1971. Introduced in March that year, the Corniche was a revised version of the Mulliner Park Ward-bodied two-door variants of the Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow and Bentley T-Series saloons. The engine was Rolls-Royce's familiar 6,750cc aluminium-alloy V8, in Corniche form producing around ten percent more power than standard and capable of propelling the car to a top speed in excess of 120mph with sportscar-beating acceleration to match. The Corniche received Rolls' advanced split-level air conditioning system along with a re-designed fascia in 1976. Despite a sky-high asking price, the model proved a major success for Rolls-Royce; periodically revised and up-dated, it remained in production well into the 1990s, the last (Convertible) examples being delivered in 1995. Delivered new to Sweden, this extraordinarily well preserved Corniche Convertible has enjoyed just one owner, covering a mere 1,198 kilometres for new. The car was originally ordered by another Swedish customer who failed to complete the purchase, whereupon the order was taken up by Mr Åstrom. For many years the car was kept at the supplying Rolls-Royce dealer (Förenard Bil) in Stockholm, being taken out once a year in summertime for a short drive around the city. From the mid-1980s onwards, after it had been moved to Umeå, the car was kept off the road. A lefthand-drive model finished most attractively in Nutmeg Brown with champagne hide interior, matching hood bag and dark brown hood, it is described as in generally excellent condition, having been kept in heated storage (latterly on axle stands) as part of its late owner's private collection and started and run up to temperature regularly, most recently in August 2003. Air conditioning, cruise control, headrests, over-rugs, Pioneer 8-track stereo, Lucas spotlights, Marchal halogen headlamps, Fiamm air horns, plain Sundym glass throughout and narrow-band whitewall tyres are just some of the noteworthy original features of this outstanding example of one of Rolls-Royce's most iconic and desirable post-war models. The car is offered with full toolkit, jacks, copy factory chassis records, copy new car order form and all instruction manuals.
