Faced with having to pitch its top-of-the-range Daytona front-engined model against the mid-engined Lamborghini Miura and Maserati Bora coupes, Ferrari responded with the 365GTB/4 Berlinetta Boxer in 1973. An entirely new car and the first road-going Ferrari not to have a vee-configuration engine, the Boxer used a 4.4-litre, four-cam, flat-12 motor derived from the Maranello firm's 3-litre F1 unit. Top speed in favourable conditions was in the region of 270km/h. A new Boxer - the 512BB - appeared in 1976 with 4,942cc engine and dry-sump lubrication. Improvements were made to the 512BB's aerodynamics, suspension and tyres, and in 1981 the model was up-dated with Bosch fuel injection, becoming the 512BBi. Sold new to the vendor in Italy in November 1981, this 512BBi was previously registered in the names of its owner's companies before being transferred to his private ownership. Driven only by him from new, the car has been serviced regularly and is presented in good overall condition, having covered just 36,000 kilometres from new. It has been fitted with a sports exhaust (the original system is included in the sale) and is finished in white with beige interior, the latter equipped with graphic equaliser stereo system. The car is offered with service invoices from Ferrari agent Michelotto for the period 1982 to 1997 and comes complete with original red cover, two items of fitted luggage, original key holder, owner's wallet and handbook, original toolkit, instruction manual and Italian libretto.
