Title: Original photograph - All American team vs. England at the University of California at Berkeley "California Field" Author: ** Place: [Berkeley, CA] Publisher: Date: [1920] Description: Original panoramic silver print photograph, showing an action shot during a rugby match, 1920. Approximately 9x27" inside matting and large and thick wooden frame (16¾x35" overall). Interesting action photograph of a 1920 rugby football match between team U.S.A. vs. England. The American team comprised mostly of players from the Universities at Berkeley and Stanford. Printed paper label on verso reads: "All American Vs. England At California Field 'Every Man in Action.'" The All American Team was the first rugby team ever to represent the United States outside America. Different names etched into the wood frame, most prominently "Steve Morris" in big letters on the bottom; others include: Ernie Hughes, "Mongo" H.R. Bennett (USMC), Ace Murphy, inscription "Livingston UBC 43 - 44, Dan Harris," and an inscription etched on the upper left side: "To my loving wife to be Lillie, from Bobby on BP." On the rugbyfootball.com website, under their Rugby at the Olympics section, a list of players for the 1920 USA team is provided, one name “Morris” (possibly the same Steve Morris), states that he was from Stanford University and “also won silver in the 100 yard dash and gold in the 4x100 relay.” Not examined outside of frame. Lot Amendments Condition: A few light dampstains to photograph and matting, tiny spots (including 6 tiny red paint dots in one area) and mild rubbing; some additional handling and age wear to frame and matting; still very good overall - scarce. Item number: 156898
