P. S. Krøyer (b. Stavanger 1851, d. Skagen 1909) Interior from the artist's childhood home in Strandgade 30 in Christianshavn. Signed and dated S. Krøyer 1872. Oil on canvas. 26.5×37 cm. Krøyer grew up in Mikkel Vibes Gård in Strandgade 30 with his aunt and foster mother Bertha Cecilie Krøyer (1818–1891) and foster father, the zoologist Henrik Nikolai Krøyer (1799–1870). Krøyer painted several works from his childhood home, including one from 1866 depicting his foster father sitting in his study reading. Skagen's Museums have a painting from 1867, which shows the view from the apartment in Strandgade (Inv. no. 2). This is the same apartment that Krøyer's student Vilhelm Hammershøi moved into in 1899, and where he painted some of his most famous grey-toned interiors.
