Fifth Corps soldier-made 155th Pennsylvania Zouaves badge in the shape of an iron cross, 1.25 x 1.5 in., inscribed "Co. C / 155th / PV." Pin back still intact. The 155th Pennsylvania Zouaves joined the 2nd Brigade, 3rd Division of the Union Fifth Corps in Washington, DC before their first engagement at the Battle of Fredericksburg on December 13, 1862. The regiment went on to fight in defense of Little Round Top at Gettysburg under the command of Lieutenant Colonel John H. Cain, suffering six killed and thirteen wounded. —————————————————- In February of 1864, the regiment received uniforms inspired by the French Zouave uniform, being French blue in color, with yellow trim, and including a red fez. Notably, a commander of the regiment, Colonel and Brevet Brigadier General, Alfred L. Pearson, led a successful counterattack against Confederate forces at the Battle of Lewis's Farm on March 29, 1865, for which he was awarded the Medal of Honor in 1897. Condition: Badge with some worn/darker areas at edges, with some scratching and discoloration to both sides.
