PERKINS, Henry (1778-1855) -- The Perkins Library. A Catalogue of the very Valuable and Important Library formed by the late Henry Perkins, Esq., at the Beginning of the Present Century ... which will be sold by Auction by Messrs. Gadsen, Ellis & Co. in the Great Library at Hanworth Park... [London, 1873]. Large 8 o (274 x 190 mm). (Title-page detached.) 9 outline lithograph facsimiles of manuscript illuminations. Contemporary half roan, marbled boards (some rubbing). Perkins, a Southwark brewer, began his collecting at the Sykes sale. His library, while relatively small, consisted mainly of books of great value and included two Gutenberg Bibles, several books printed on vellum, and illuminated manuscripts among others. While the sale only consisted of 856 lots, it totaled £26,000. Blogie III, col. 30; De Ricci, p. 96; Quaritch II.
