A FINE SET OF THIS ACCOUNT OF THE EXPEDITION TO AUSTRALIA AND THE SOUTH SEAS under the command of Baudin, with Péron as naturalist and Freycinet as cartographer. Sailing via Mauritius and arriving in Australian coastal waters in May 1801, the Géographe and Naturaliste went north to Timor surveying and noting the inhabitants and natural history, before sailing to Tasmania and on to Sydney. The southern coast of the continent was thoroughly surveyed, naming it 'Terre Napolén' and giving French Imperial names to various sites, before they returned to Mauritius via the northwestern coast-line. This account contains the first complete map with details of the coast of the Australian continent. (5)
