Type: 4:82R, 82Greek. 5-line incipit printed in red on a3, one woodcut initial on a1, 13-line initial space with guide-letter, other 4- to 6-line initial spaces. (Light, occasional spotting.) Contemporary Italian blindstamped brown goatskin over wooden boards (restored, leather on portion of upper cover renewed), brass corner and central bosses, 4 clasps (thongs renewed), modern brown blindstamped morocco-backed clamshell box. FIRST EDITION. The Cornucopiae linguae latinae is Perotti's most original work. Written as a commentary on book I of Martial, it includes a discussion on almost every word of Martial's text and thus transcended its original ambition, becoming a standard work of reference on the Latin language. Calepinus mined it for his great dictionary, and it was used by Erasmus. The fine restoration of the contemporary binding involved creating identical tools in order to match the blindstamped decoration. H *12697; BMC V, 455 (IB. 23255); Goff P-288; IGI 7419.
