PERRAULT, Charles (1628-1703). Histoires ou Contes du Tems Passé. Avec des Moralitez. Nouvelle edition augmenteé d'une nouvelle. Amsterdam: Jacques Desbordes, 1729. 12° (132 x 70mm). Engraved frontispiece, title printed in red and black, 8 engraved vignettes by De Seve. (Frontispiece window mounted, C8 corner repair affecting a few words, a few skilful marginal repairs, last leaf possibly from another copy on different paper stock with the watermark 'aph'.) 18th-century blue morocco gilt, gilt edges, modern brown calf-backed clamshell case (rebacked, endpapers renewed). Provenance: Robert George Windsor-Clive, Baron Windsor (Hewell bookplate) -- Andrew Lang (pencilled note). This edition adds a ninth Perrault tale, L'Adroite Princesse , written by Madame L'Heritier, Perrault's niece. The first English translation of the same year uses the text of this edition. The same plates by De Seve are used from the earlier Desbordes editions, but the sequence of stories is altered.
